About Disease

Haemophilus parasuis (HPS) often causes polyserositis, arthritis, and meningitis in pigs, known as Haemophilus parasuis disease, also referred to as Glässer’s disease in pigs. This bacterium commonly infects pigs aged 2 weeks to 4 months, with the highest incidence in pigs at weaning (5-8 weeks) and during the nursery stage. The infection rate is generally between 10%-15%, with a severe mortality rate reaching up to 50%. Clinical symptoms include fever, respiratory distress, joint swelling, lameness, cyanosis of the skin and mucous membranes, purplish ears, difficulty standing, and even paralysis. Early and rapid detection methods are crucial for the prevention and control of Haemophilus parasuis infections.
