About Disease
Porcine Respiratory and Reproductive Syndrome (PRRS), also known as blue ear disease, is a highly contagious disease in pigs caused by the PRRS virus. In China, it is classified as a Category II infectious disease. The main clinical features include anorexia, fever, sows experiencing abortion, stillbirths, weak piglets, mummified fetuses, and respiratory distress in pigs of all ages. PRRSV is usually divided into European and American types based on genetic and antigenic differences. The predominant type in China is the American PRRSV, although European PRRSV has also been isolated in various regions in recent years.
