BioStone Animal Health Advances Nipah Virus Antibody Surveillance with Multi-Species iELISA

DALLAS-FORT WORTH, TX — January 29, 2026  — In response to the recent Nipah virus (NiV) outbreak reported in India, BioStone Animal Health has launched a multi-species indirect ELISA (iELISA) Test kit for Nipah virus antibody detection (Cat. 10101), designed to support surveillance, biosecurity, and outbreak preparedness.

Nipah virus is a highly pathogenic zoonotic virus with recurrent outbreaks across South and Southeast Asia, posing significant risks to both human and animal health. As no licensed Nipah vaccines are currently available, early detection and serological surveillance remain the primary tools for outbreak control. BioStone’s iELISA was developed to detect NiV antibodies across multiple species, including pigs, bats, companion animals, and humans.

Internal and collaborative evaluations demonstrated high diagnostic performance, with up to 100% specificity in most tested species and 100% sensitivity in confirmed NiV-positive pig and human sera. Importantly, bat surveillance studies revealed substantial differences between antibody positivity and RNA detection, underscoring the critical need for serology-based tools to assess past exposure and silent circulation of NiV.

With expanding geographic risk driven by fruit bat migration and recurring outbreaks, BioStone’s Nipah iELISA represents a practical and scalable solution for surveillance programs, research institutions, and public health laboratories.
