About Disease
Avian rhinotracheitis (ART), initially named turkey rhinotracheitis (TRT), is now more frequently referred to as avian pneumovirus (APV) infection. Avian pneumovirus (APV) (or avian metapneumoviruses) causes respiratory diseases and/or egg drops in species such as turkey, chicken, Muscovy or Pekin duck. Based on analysis of nucleotide and predicted amino acid sequence avian pneumoviruses (APVs) are identified as three subgroups A , B (originated from Europe) and C (originated from US). French isolates obtained in the mid 1980s, which did not fit antigenically and genetically into any of the thee three subgroups, were proposed as subgroup D.
