About Disease
The BVDV is capable of producing a broad range of clinical signs, ranging from most often asymptomatic infection to severe acute disease with signs from the enteric, reproductive or respiratory organs. BVDV is one of the world’s most costly bovine diseases, with losses from reduced herd productivity, health and reproductive efficiency.
One of the most immunogenic proteins of BVDV is non-structural NS2/3 (p80/p125), which is essential for the BVDV viral RNA replication and cytopathogenicity. This protein is also highly conserved among pestiviruses and induces a strong humoral immune response in cattle exposed to live BVDV. Therefore, p80/p125 protein is a proper antigen target to detect BVDV antibodies in bovine samples.
