About Disease
Lymphocytes from cattle not infected with M. bovis do not produce IFN-γ. Therefore, detection of IFN-γ correlates to M. bovis infection. Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused by M. bovis, is an important livestock disease in many countries, and its control and eradication is complicated by the lack of sensitive tests as well as the presence of significant wildlife reservoirs. In some countries, the overall incidence of disease in individual dairy herds may approach a morbidity rate of 60-70%.
