About Disease
Reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) is a retrovirus that is morphologically similar to, but genetically distinct from, the avian leukosis/sarcoma viruses. Reticuloendotheliosis designates a group of pathologic syndromes caused by REV group of avian retroviruses. The disease syndromes associated with REV include a runting disease syndrome, chronic neoplasia of lymphoid and other tissues, and acute reticulum cell neoplasia. The clinical findings for runting syndrome include weight loss, paleness, occasional paralysis, and abnormal feathering. Death from acute or chronic neoplasia is preceded by depression and occasionally by some of the same clinical changes described for the runting syndrome.
